A 10-metre high Lady Godiva sculpture wowed crowds in Luton yesterday afternoon as she arrived in the town en route to the Olympics.
The giant puppet made by mechanics, artists, engineers and puppeteers is the centrepiece of ‘Godiva Awakes’, part of this year’s Cultural Olympiad funded by the Arts Council.
Running a little late due to delays and a puncture along the way, the sculpture arrived in George Street before heading heading up Upper George Street on horseback and made its way to St George’s Square where puppeteers made it stand up and walk around.
A parade of school children, carnival performers, Mela entertainers and local musicians were on hand to welcome the sculpture.
