Luton Borough Council will be installing posters, reminding motorists to stop at a school crossing patrol, on Tomlinson Avenue, Lewsey Farm, after an incident between a driver and a lollipop man.

The school crossing patrol was assaulted by a driver when he refused to move while helping children cross the road safely outside Chantry Primary Academy.

Bedfordshire Police were called to the incident.

A spokesperson for Luton Borough Council said: “The matter has been dealt with via restorative justice and we are happy with the actions taken by Bedfordshire Police following the incident.

“We will also be installing posters in the area in April/May reminding motorists that ‘stop means stop’ and if they fail to do so they are breaking the law and could face a £1,000 fine and three penalty points on their licence.”

Restorative justice is an approach to justice that focuses on the needs of the victims and the offenders, as well as the involved community, instead of punishing the offender.
