A Luton man has been charged over the death of a one-year-old girl in Surrey.
Alistair Wayne Bowen, 35, of Drayton Road, and the mother of the child, Kirsty Lee, 25, of Grove Close in Windsor, have both been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and causing or allowing serious physical harm to a child contrary to the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004.
Surrey Police began an operation after officers were alerted by staff at St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey, where the girl was admitted with serious injuries on Wednesday, 28 May 2014.
She was later transferred to St George’s Hospital in Tooting but sadly died the following day.
The young girl has since been formally identified as Cara Lee-Fanus and a post-mortem examination established the cause of death as a head injury.
Detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team subsequently launched a murder investigation and both Bowen and Lee have now been charged.
They are both due to appear at Guildford Magistrates Court on Tuesday April 14.
