Luton’s only Church of England school is appealing for help ahead of its 50th anniversary next year.

Wenlock Junior School, on Beaconsfield Road, has educated thousands of children since it was first opened on 17 October 1966– and it is now trying to piece together its past as part of a school project.

In an open letter to parents and nearby residents headteacher Debbie Williams wrote: “We are beginning to collect any stories, newspaper articles etc to build a picture of Wenlock in the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s.”

Anyone with information can call the school on 730624.

> We have delved into the archives to find a story which appeared in the Luton News on October 20 1966.

In it Rev H. E. Frankham, Vicar of Luton, said: “This school, which has for so long been a dream to so many, has now become a reality”.
