A motorist involved in a hit and run collision on Christmas Eve is believed to have swapped seats with a passenger, the Herald & Post can reveal.

A woman in her 60s was left injured in the road after the collision, which occurred just after 1.30pm close to the roundabout outside Jansel House, Hitchin Road, Luton.

She suffered cuts to the head and was taken by ambulance to Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

It is believed that the driver, a man in his 20s, later stopped to swap seats with a female passenger after leaving the scene of the incident.

Police are looking for small silver or grey car, possibly a Daewoo Matiz or Vauxhall Corsa, that was seen being driven off down Putteridge Road.

A Beds Police spokesperson said: “Anyone who saw this accident or knows who hit this lady and then callously drove off leaving her injured on the roadway, can contact Bedfordshire Police, in confidence, on 101, or text information to 07786 200011.

“Alternatively you can contact the independent crime fighting charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
