Local football mourned the loss of the Luton Old Boys manager, who passed away on Saturday, November 1.

Mick Smith, of Bushmead, died suddenly at his home, aged 61.

He had managed the club since 2011 and had previously managed AC Sportsman reserves, where he won the county cup twice.

Tom Gray, secretary for Luton Old Boys, said: “It was a shock for all of us, the club, players and officials will deeply miss him. It has been very difficult for everyone who knew Mick.”

The father of four had celebrated his 30th wedding anniversary with his wife Sandra earlier this year.

Alan Clark, chairman of Crawley Green, said: “Mick was well known in local football circles and he provided many youngsters with the opportunity to play.

“He was one of life’s givers, to his family and to local sport. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.”

The funeral is at Stopsley Crematorium on Friday, November 21, at 3.15pm.

Those who wish to attend are requested to wear something ‘QPR’ blue and white. After the service Mick’s friends are invited to Barton Rovers Football Club.
