A student had a mobile phone snatched from her hand by a man on a bike on Bank Holiday Monday (April 1).

The incident happened between 5pm - 5.30pm when the 27-year-old student was walking along Surrey Street in Luton.

A man on a dull silver bike snatched the victim’s white LG mobile phone from her hand and cycled away.

The thief is described as black, between 25-30 years old with a slim build and short hair.

PC Jenny Buckley said: “This incident happened during daylight hours and I am sure other members of the public would have been in the area and may have seen a man matching this description. I urge anyone who saw anything suspicious on Bank Holiday Monday to come forward and help this investigation.”

To stay safe, follow the police advice below:

Keep mobile phones, money and other items of value out of sight so as not to attract a potential robber’s attention

If someone suspicious approaches you, try and cross the road or walk away

Pay attention if someone is approaching you from behind

If an offence is committed, try and remember clearly what the offender looks like including face and clothes

Register your mobile or iPod on www.immobilise.com to discourage theft and increase security

Call Beds Police on 101 if you have information about this crime.
