Angry Cardinal Newman parents, already furious with the council over proposed cuts to faith school buses, are even more upset now their e-petition with 1,300 names has been rejected.
The reason given was that it contained only the post codes and not full addresses of the signatories.
Spokeswoman for the Cardinal Newman Preserve our School Transport Committee, Antoinette Kotula, said the council had sent them an eight page document entitled Petition Scheme dated June 2010.
She added: “Although this has a full page regarding their own e-petition process, when we searched the website we found nothing.
“So we followed the instructions in the document which said petitions must include a statement about the subject of the petition, what action was wanted and valid signatures from five or more people who ‘live, work, study or play within Luton,’ together with their names, addresses and the date they signed.”
Many of the signatures were gathered on St Patrick’s Day.
Mrs Kotula said: “We have another 25 names and hope these will not be rejected as well.”
The committee hopes to address the full council meeting on April 16.”
