A group of men kicked and jumped on a taxi in an unprovoked attack in Tomlinson Avenue on Wednesday (March 27).

The taxi driver locked himself in the black Toyota Prius during the incident which happened between 6.45 - 7am near The Roman public house.

The men, all about 20 years old, caused scratches and dents in the vehicle.

PC Sarah Butcher said: “This appears to be a completely unprovoked attack against the taxi driver as he sat in his vehicle as he had to endure a torrent of verbal abuse from those responsible. I urge anyone who saw or heard a commotion in the area on Wednesday morning to contact the police.

“One of the offenders was wearing a red woollen hat, a hooded top, grey tracksuit bottoms and a black jacket and I would ask anyone who recognises this man from this description to also come forward and assist with this investigation.”

Anyone with information about this crime can contact PC Butcher at Luton Police Station, in confidence, on 01582 394342, or Bedfordshire Police on 101, or text information on 07786 200011.

Alternatively you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
