A womenswear manufacturer that has been in Luton since 1929 will be shutting up shop in the summer.

Up to a dozen staff currently work in the Eastex building in Guildford Street, and more than 100 head office staff are employed at the company’s Capability Green premises.

Around a quarter of the staff at Capability Green were made redundant on Friday and the rest will have to move from Luton to London this month.

It’s part of the company’s merger with clothing brand Jacques Vert, which sees Eastex, Jacques Vert, Alexon, Kaliko, Minuet Petite, Dash, Ann Harvey, Planet, Precis and Windsmoor operate under the Jacques Vert Group umbrella.

Of the 40 employees laid off at the former Irisa Group head office in Capability Green, 29 were compulsory redundancies.

The remaining 104 staff will be asked to move to the group’s Islington offices from March 25.

Those at Guildford Street will remain until June when the lease ends.
