The Discover Islam Centre was the first venue for a launch of a series of events to promote and raise awareness regarding Luton’s first foodbank. It is the result of more than 50 local organisations and many more volunteers who were committed to ensuring no-one goes hungry in Luton.
The awareness event was attended by a diverse group of individuals including councillors and the Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner Olly Martins as well as representatives of different Luton based organisations including University of Bedfordshire, Luton and Dunstable Hospital, Luton Council of Faiths and Luton Council of Mosques.
The food bank is in need of people to donate food in order to make sure that when it opens, it is able to meet the inevitable demand it will receive. The Discover Islam Centre is one of many places which is a drop off point if you want to donate food.
