Six schools in Dallow and Farley Hill are involved on the Dallow Downs project where a trail is being developed for the local people and the community at large by the Faith Woodlands Communities (FWC).
Around 60 pupils from Downside Junior, Beech Hill Primary, Foxdell Junior, Foxdell Infant and Whipperley Infant had an exciting guided walk to test out the trail which was followed by a tree planting behind Foxdell Junior School.
Local provenance trees Beech, English Oak, Field Maple, Crab Apple, Silver Birch, Small-Leaved lime and Hornbeam were planted under the supervision of FWC staff, Luton Council of Faiths members, executive and teachers. Children were made aware of the importance and usage of those trees while having their guided walk in Runley Woods.
The next day saw the planting of eight fruit trees led by Groundworks Luton, close to Runley Park. As part of a FWC guided walk with nature activities in Maulden Woods. with the Luton Woodcraft, the young people had also the opportunity to plant some trees with the Greensand Trust within the premises of their newly built Woodlands Centre in Maulden Woods.
