Thieves stole £30,000 worth of jewellery from a house in Durbar Road using tools from the garden shed to break in,

The burglary took place between 1pm - 3.40pm on Sunday March 3, when the offenders removed a safe from the house containing both money and the 24 carat gold jewellery.

Detective Constable Surfraz Hussain, who is investigating the burglary, is keen to hear from anyone who was in Durbar Road at the time or anyone who may have been offered the jewellery since.

Det Con Hussain said: “This was a very upsetting experience for the victim and her family who has been left extremely shaken by the burglary. We want to find the offenders as quickly as possible and stop them from causing anymore misery to residents in the town.

“We would really like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time or anyone else who may have information – however small or insignificant they think it is – that could help us. Don’t dismiss your information as unimportant – even tiny details which don’t seem relevant now might become useful later on in the investigation.”

Beds Police are also reminding residents that burglars are less likely to target homes that are occupied, so making sure your property looks and feels liek someone is home can keep your belongings safe.

Simple crime prevention measures like leaving lights on in main living areas and keeping a radio switched on and tuned to a talk radio station can make all the difference.

You should also make sure your doors and windows are securely locked at all times, with UPVC doors double-locked.

Stop a thief from getting into the back of the house where he can work unseen by fitting a strong, high gate across a side passage and be alert to strangers loitering in the street.

If you have information relating to this incident, contact DC Hussain, in confidence, on 01582 394435, the non-emergency number 101, or text information to 07786 200011. Alternatively contact independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
