Campaigners are taking their fight against Luton Airport growth into the political arena.
Wigmore resident John Magill will be standing in the council by election triggered by the death of councillor Roy Davies.
The decision to field a candidate in the poll, on April 10, was taken at a meeting of leaders of a number of campaign groups that have united to fight the expansion of the airport to 18 million passengers a year.
Mr Magill, 62, of Ilford Close, said residents in Wigmore had seen a “gradual increase” in noise and traffic caused by the airport.
“We’re lucky that we’re not under the flight path, with the noise of take off and landing.
“But we hear aircraft noise last thing at night and first thing in the morning.
“There’s also a lot of traffic congestion around the airport – the road infrastructure just isn’t capable of dealing with it.”
