Five suspected burglars were arrested in Luton in connection with numerous burglaries in Hitchin, Harpenden, Luton, and Harrow, in an operation on November 11.

They were charged with conspiracy to commit burglary after a search at an address where suspect goods possibly from nine burglaries were found.

Stelica Ciobotaru, 45, and Maria Mitrofan, 24, both of Hightown Road, and Radu Bogdan, 22, Ion Oprea, 38, and Ianos Bencze, 21, all of Havelock Road, were charged.

They all appeared at Hatfield Remand Court on November 16 and remanded in custody, apart from Maria Mitrofan, who was bailed to return to St Albans Crown Court on November 21.

The arrests were made in a joint operation with Bedfordshire Police and Hertfordshire Constabulary.

Detective Chief Inspector Tannis Perks said: “This operation demonstrates our determination to target burglars relentlessly and drive down crime. Burglary is low in Hertfordshire so it is important that we are also vigilant about criminals coming into the county. Where criminals are coming into Hertfordshire from other counties we are working with neighbouring forces to make the county a hostile place for them to operate.

“I urge members of the public to help us stop these criminals, by calling 101 if they see anything suspicious, or if they have any information about burglars. If you don’t want to give your name, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 about anyone you think is a burglar.”
