Seven men were arrested in connection to large scale crack and heroin dealing in a series of raids yesterday (November 20).
Houses were searched in Beech Road, Highbury Road and Dunstable Road in Luton, where between 200 and 300 bags containing what appears to be heroin and crack, and thousands of pounds of cash, were found.
Five men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to deal in Class A drugs, and two were arrested for possession of controlled drugs.
Det Insp Simon Lansbury said: “This operation has been culmination of several months of hard work and the arrests are extremely significant. It should make a big improvement to the environment of the local area and is partly in response to information that has come directly from the local community.”
The seven men are all in custody. Other items taken for analysis were numerous mobile phones and paperwork to be examined by the Financial Investigation team for money laundering offences.
Police and Crime Commissioner Olly Martins said: “Information from the public is vital for police to bring serious criminals to justice. Sometimes it is not immediate as police need to build a case, but they couldn’t do their jobs without this intelligence.
“Dealing with serious crime has a positive impact in local areas because of the link between the crime on your street, such as burglary and anti-social behaviour, with the drugs organised criminals deal in.”
