A COLLEGE’S first fun run raised a fantastic £3,400 for charity.

Staff and students at Luton Sixth Form College put on their running shoes for the event and raised £1,400 each for charities Sue Ryder and Keech Hospice Care.

The event saw runners take on 5km and 1km courses, with many in fancy dress, including Where’s Wally, a dalek and 118 118 men outfits.

The overall winner of the event was PE teacher Stuart Strange, who came first in the 5km race, completing the course in just over 16 minutes.

Kieron Stock, 18, was the first male student to make it round the course and Charlotte Houghton, 18, was the first female to finish.

Awards were also given for costumes, with students Jack Jordan and Sam Thomas, as the Super Mario Brothers, winning best group fancy dress.

Principal Simon Kitchener, who also took part, said: “I would like to thank everyone for their help and support.

“The money is going towards two fantastic local causes, and I hope that this event will become a regular feature of the college calendar.”
