A FUND set up in memory of late Luton Town footballer David Preece is providing life-saving diagnostic equipment at a leading London trauma centre.
The new ROTEM system has been installed in The Royal London Hospital’s emergency department.
Trauma and vascular surgeon Professor Karim Brohi described it as “a huge step forward for both research and treatment of the effects of bleeding in trauma.”
The installation of the technology was made possible through a generous donation from The David Preece Memorial Fund, formed after the Hatters midfielder died prematurely in 2007 from a short illness involving blood-related complications.
Family and friends, including his brother-in-law Mark Filmer, travelled up from Luton for its launch this week.
Former England and Derby County player Roy McFarland said: “After David’s death, several of us felt compelled to leave a lasting legacy in his memory.
“With help from all his family, friends and colleagues, we’re proud to have been able to raise funds for such a worthy cause.”
