Man arrested after hit and run

A MAN was killed when he was hit by a car on the A6 near Luton this morning (April 30).

A 51-year-old man from Bedford was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving shortly after.

The victim, believed to be in his 50s, suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a car as he walked along the A6 close to the Streatley roundabout.

His body was found at 3.30am by a member of the public who called the emergency services.

Police and ambulance attended and officers quickly established the deceased had been in collision with a vehicle.

Further examination of the scene then led officers to identify the vehicle involved and a 51-year-old man from Bedford was arrested

The car, a grey Fiat Punto has also been recovered.

Inspector Colin Bonner said: “While this collision happened in the middle of the night I am keen to hear from anyone who may have been using the A6 in the early hours and saw either the pedestrian walking along the road or the Fiat Punto being driven north from Luton up the A6 towards Bedford.”

Police have not yet identified the deceased who was taken to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital.
