A MARATHON running Toddington doctor turned trainer helped a fellow GP complete his first 26.2 mile race to raise funds for charity.

Dr Sunil Sharma of the Toddington Medical Centre helped Dr Talib Abubacker, of the Bell House Medical Centre in Luton, prepare to take on his debut 26.2 mile run.

And the pair both completed the Paris Marathon in three hours 15 minutes and three hours 42 respectively raising money for Keech Hospice Care, The Karen Trust and Hospice at Home volunteers.

Dr Sharma, who has also completed the Belfast, Edinburgh and London marathons said: “I showed him a picture of the Champs Elysee and said how good it would be to have a coffee and a croissant there after finishing the marathon and I think that persuaded him. He was very easy to train.

“This country has a huge obesity problem and a common excuse is that people don’t have time to exercise.

“We’re both busy GPs and we’ve got time to train for a marathon, so anyone can do it.”
