A UNIVERSITY lecturer is embarking on the challenge of a lifetime by signing up to run this year’s London Marathon in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
Dale Wightman, 31, who lives in Luton and lectures at Middlesex University, will run the gruelling 26.2 mile race on April 22 to raise money to help to beat the UK’s biggest killer, heart and circulatory disease.
His inspiration for taking part is his father, who suffered two heart attacks several years ago.
He said; “An event like that really makes you consider the fragility of life. Thankfully he is still with us today, but there are so many people who lose their lives every year through some sort of heart-related issues.
“The work that BHF does is so important and worth supporting so decided at the age of 30 to re-evaluate my life and came to the decision to give something back.”
Since confirmation of his place among 35.000 accepted runners for BHF, he has been under a stringent training plan designed by the running company “Full Potential”, who work with runners of all abilities.
