A CHEEKY cat burglar is cultivating a collection of random items from his nightly prowls round Stopsley.

One-year-old Denis brings home all sorts of things from socks and sandals to Barbie dolls.

The tiny kitty once even brought home a two-and-a-half legged real-life cat who now comes and visits on a regular basis.

Owner Lesley Newman, who works at Vauxhall, said: “He doesn’t steal, he is cleaning the neighbourhood up. Ever since he first started going out he’s brought things home. He is very small for his age but that doesn’t stop him. He comes and wakes us up in the morning making such a loud noise until we acknowledge what he’s brought us.”

Denis had a bad start in life and was not expected to live more than a week, as all his siblings and his mum died, but he is now in good health and lives with Lesley, her husband and five other cats.

The cat burglar is becoming quite notorious and has his own world-famous Facebook page ‘Denis Cat Burglar Newman’ and was featured on the radio this week.

Denis’s kitty includes hats, gloves, earphones, a two-metre J cloth, balls, a paper rose, a loveheart with ‘I Love You’ on it, paintbrushes, odd slippers and even copies of our sister paper the Herald&Post.

Mrs Newman said: “He recently brought home a woman’s sandal and a few days later the other sandal so I now have a matching pair. If anyone recognises them get in touch and I’ll return them! He also brought home a woman’s cardigan with the pegs still attached which is rather embarrassing.”

Mrs Newman said she is going to get a ‘pet-cam’ to try and trace Denis’s movements.

Keep up-to-date with Denis’s adventures on his Facebook page: Denis Cat Burglar Newman.
