PLANS for Luton Borough Council’s annual fireworks display to be moved from Popes Meadow to Stopsley Common have been scrapped.
The council had estimated it could save £25,000 on the subsidy for the event by charging for parking at Stopsley.
But an assessment of the site revealed it would actually have to spend £20,000 on measures including lighting and fencing to make the site safe for a large public fireworks display.
