Ofsted has registered its grave concerns over Sundon Park Junior School, which was labelled ‘inadequate’ after an inspection by the schools’ watchdog.

A report of the visit, first made public on Monday, reveals significant shortcomings in the school’s level of teaching, leadership and pupils’ achievement.

The only aspect of the school not deemed to be inadequate was the behaviour and safety of pupils, which falls into the ‘requires improvement’ category.

The report states: “There is too much weak teaching. As a result, almost all groups of pupils are not achieving as well as they should.

“Leadership and management are inadequate because leaders, including governors, have not taken effective steps to bring about improvements since the last inspection.”

Headteacher Jennifer Wightman said: “We are very disappointed with the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection. However a range of measures have already been put in place to ensure the quality of teaching and learning can be improved.”
