The council’s GreenUp team are working with Ragged Life, a local craft organisation, to help residents turn unwanted fabric and clothes into handmade home ware, fashion and art.

Ragged Life will hold a two workshops for residents to come along to, the first is at Stockwood Discovery Centre on Thursday, March 19, from 10am till 1pm and the second is on Friday, March 20, at the Wardown Museum, from 10am till 1pm.

Volunteers from Keech Hospice Shop are donating textiles and clothes for the sessions.

Councillor Dave Taylor, said: “Nationally, more than one million tonnes of textiles are disposed of in landfill sites each year.

“In Luton, we throw away more than 2,000 tonnes of textiles every 12 months, equating to around 27kgs per Luton household per year.

“So come along to the workshops and find out how to have fun and create something that is not only good for your home but for the planet too.”
