Two-bed flats in an unbuilt town centre tower complex are being advertised for an eye-watering £550,000, the Luton News can exclusively reveal.

On January 21 Luton Borough Council gave conditional planning permission for three blocks comprised of 130 flats and 359 student rooms to be built on a car park opposite Whitbread House, Flowers Way, Luton.

The same day a listing was placed on property website Zoopla, advertising two-bedroom flats in the complex for £534,000 to £551,000.

For less money you could buy a seven-bedroom villa in Orlando (£520,000), a four-bedroom flat in Venice (524,000) or a six-bed house in Barbados (£545,000).

One-bedroom flats in the same development are being touted for £364,000 to £382,000.

In planning documents submitted to the council, consultancy company Pod LLP estimates two-bed flats in the Flowers Way complex to be worth £155,000 and one-bed apartments are valued at £120,000.

Advertising for the properties boasts that they are “located close to one of the world’s leading financial districts and in one of the most cosmopolitan areas of London”.

It adds: “Stepping inside your Flowers Way apartment you are transported to a luxurious haven – leaving the day’s stresses far behind.”

The site backs onto the Red Lion pub, Luton Crown Court and G Casino, while flats will look across the Park Viaduct carriageway.
