Active Luton is encouraging residents of all ages and fitness levels to enter Luton’s inaugural Hercules Festival of Sport.

It is taking place at Luton Sports Village on Sunday, May 24, participants can take part in as many sports as they like.

There will be triathlons, aquathlons, duathlons, cycle events, a 1.5km family fun run, 5 and 10km runs.

David Enright, Hercules event director, said: “The Festival of Sport in Luton will provide a day-long feast of sport and fun for the town.

“There are events to suit all the family and entertainment for spectators.

“We are announcing the festival now to give as many people as possible the chance to prepare for and enter the events.

“The Festival of Sport will be Luton’s own ‘local Olympiad’”

The festival builds on last years successful triathlon and aquathlon events.

Luton South MP, Gavin Shuker, said: “I am right behind the Festival of Sport, it will be an exciting sporting event for Luton. I am looking forward to joining athletes and families across Luton and taking on sporting challenges together.”

The events will take place in the Olympic-sized swimming pool and the country lane, bridle ways and playing fields that surround the sports village.

Helen Barnett, chief executive of Active Luton, said: “Whether you are new to physical activity, or looking to improve on previous performances, there are events suitable for everyone.

“The feeling of elation when you cross the finish line in one of these events will be amazing.

“Running, cycling and swimming have huge health and fitness benefits and it is great that we can make full use of our wonderful fitness centre.

“I really hope we get a lot of first timers signing up - this is an event aimed at all the family.”
