Cancer patients say the care they receive from the Luton & Dunstable Hospital is among the best in England.
The L&D is in the top ten for patient experience across the country, according to results released by Macmillan Cancer Support, based on research commissioned by NHS England.
Patients were asked about the hospital care they received and to rate hospitals according to measured aspects of care, such as:
> Were their diagnosis and treatment options explained clearly?
> Did they feel supported in their care?
> Did they feel that they were treated with respect?
The same analysis also shows that the L&D is one of the most improved hospital trusts for patient experience.
Jo McWhan, general manager for cancer services at the L&D, said: “This is excellent news, especially as the Macmillan Cancer Unit at the hospital has just achieved a Macmillan Quality Environment Award. Patient experience really matters and I am delighted that our cancer patients are getting an exemplary experience of hospital care.
“Improving our patients’ experience is a key corporate priority at the L&D. The staff who work with our cancer patients show enormous commitment and always put their patients first. Good care and support makes all the difference in the world to our patients who have cancer.”
Carol Fenton, general manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in London, Anglia and the South East, congratulated the L&D for “achieving some of the best results in the recent patient experience survey”.
