Luton’s Household Waste Recycling Centres will be open from 9am till 5pm, from Wednesday, October 1. The two centres are in Eaton Green Road and Progress Way. They are open seven days a week, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Residents are reminded that as of Wednesday 1 October both of Luton’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) revert to their winter opening hours.
This winter Luton’s two ‘tidy tips’ in Eaton Green Road and Progress Way will again be open from 9am-5pm, seven days a week, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day when the sites will be closed.
A variety of items are accepted for recycling, including paper and card, garden waste and wood, large and small electrical items, scrap metal, tins, cans and plastic bottles, textiles and shoes, glass bottles and jars, car and household batteries, energy-saving light bulbs, tyres and gas cylinders, mattresses and carpets, plasterboard, furniture, cooking and engine oil, and many others.
Councillor Dave Taylor said: “Luton’s Household Waste Recycling Centres allow residents to recycle larger household items which they cannot fit into their bins. The vast majority of Luton residents are able to use the centres without a free waste permit, however you may need to apply for one if you are driving a van or a pick-up truck or towing a trailer.
