Relay For Life organisers are encouraging the public to head to Stockwood Park on Saturday, September 6, from 12pm till 9pm and Sunday, September 7, from 9am till 12pm for their 7th annual charity event.

The overnight relay sees team members taking it in turn to walk or run around the track for 24 hours.

One of the organisers, Pauline Robb, said: “We want everyone to come down and see what we do, it is a really great weekend, it is like a mini festival, we have lots of acts performing on the stage over the two days. The teams will also have stalls around the tracks with things for people to get involved with, there really is something for everyone.

“One of the most poignant parts of Relay is the Candle of Hope Ceremony at 8.00 pm on Saturday when dusk falls, a time to dedicate a candle bag to a loved one, it’s an emotional rollercoaster where we celebrate, remember and fight back, something not to be missed!”

Last year Luton raised £75,000 and they hope to beat that this year, all money raised goes to Cancer Research UK.

Ms Robb added: “The survivors lap kicks off the event at 12pm, the Mayor will be here for the opening ceremony and we have 65 VIP survivors registered, it is a fantastic way to kick off the event before the teams begin their relay. There will be a bras and pants lap, as testicular cancer, lung cancer and bowel cancer have the highest mortality rates in Luton and gives the town one of the worst cancer survival rates in the UK.

“It will be a great day and I hope lots of people get involved and help us to beat cancer!”
