IT’S only been open a week, but the owners of the new KFC in Wigmore have already applied to extend the shop’s opening hours.
The fast food outlet has been doing brisk business since opening, and franchisee Alim Janmohamed will hear on Monday (February 6) whether he will be able to extend the closing time from the current 11pm, to 2am.
Luton Borough Council’s licensing panel will make a decision at its meeting at the Town Hall at 10am on Monday.
The franchisee has said it has safeguards in place against problems such as litter, noise and anti-social behaviour.
But several objections have been received to the application.
One resident said: “The area is becoming increasingly attractive to groups of people to congregate, meaning high levels of noise and increasing litter.
“Late night hours would only compound the problem.”
The Wigmore Fish Restaurant has opposed the bid on the grounds of public safety, nuisance and crime and disorder, and another resident said it was “totally unacceptable” for a fast food shop to stay open until 2am in a residential area.
