ENTHUSIASTIC parents got their hands dirty at Ferrars Junior School family action day on Wednesday.
It marked the start of work to transform the school’s wildlife area, thanks to a grant of £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund Awards for All and a little help from the charity Groundworks.
Mums and dads will labour alongside the landscape team to mend the pond, build a dipping platform, clear undergrowth and create seating areas.
Both pupils and parents will have an opportunity to join the Really Wild After School Club.
Ferrars’ business manager, Brian Herbert, said: “The children will benefit from a fantastic new outdoor learning space.
“They’re really excited about making things like bird boxes and a bird watching screen.”
