Executive members fled Luton Borough Council chamber after jeering Cardinal Newman parents brought the meeting to a halt.
They were voicing their anger at the council’s decision to axe funding for faith school buses.
The public gallery erupted as children chanted “Save our buses” and people whistled, shouted and waved banners.
The meeting was addressed by Cardinal Newman headteacher Jane Crow who spoke of the basic right of Catholic children to be educated in their faith and the devastating impact the council’s decision would have.
She accused the council of lacking integrity and said that cutting funding for school transport amounted to indirect discrimination.
The council have offered a one-off payment of £406,000 and claimed they intend continuing dialogue with the school.
Cardianl Newman Preserve our School Trnsport Commitee spokesowman Antoinette Kotula said: “We’re gutted.”
But she vowed the school would fight on to overturn the decision.
