Scouts proudly packed into St Mary’s parish church last night to mark St George’s Day with a colourful display of flags.
More than 300 scouts, leaders and parents attended the service, which has replaced the traditional town centre parade to save on policing costs.
Youngsters bearing 19 flags formed a procession through the church, and the celebration included a rewnewal of the scout promise.
Deputy district commissioner Denise O’Hara presented Chief Scout awards to eight beavers and four cubs, and handed out 12 long service awards, including a 25 year award to Sandy Nelson, chairman of 1st Someries.
The service was led by Ian Marshall and music was provided by organist Roy Meek. Proceeds from the collection will go to the British Heart Foundation in memory of Don Lowe, who was involved with scouting in Luton for more than 40 years.
