Thieves tried to gouge a man’s eyes out as they robbed him in Waldeck Road on Sunday (April 14).
The 25-year-old victim was walking home from work at 6.45am when two men and a woman approached him for a lighter, and then again for some change.
He refused to give them money so they asked to use his mobile phone, and as the victim went to dial the number for them he was punched several times by the men and one of them tried to gouge his eyes.
The offenders then snatched his phone and fled over a fence towards Brook Street.
Det Con Dave Brecknock said: “This was an extremely violent assault and robbery which has left the victim with some very nasty injuries. I’d urge anyone who may have seen the offenders to get in contact with us as quickly as possible so we can stop them causing any more harm to residents in the town.”
The victim was taken to the Luton & Dunstable Hospital by ambulance with a double fracture of his jaw and injuries to his eye.
The offenders were described as a white male in his late 20s and a black male in his mid-20s, both around 6ft - 6ft2, and a white female aged 25-30 who was slim, 5ft7, and wearing a white top.
