There’s not much sign of an improvement in the temperature as we enter April and are still gripped by winter.
With a brisk Arctic wind making it feel even colder, at least it should help generate a bit of power at Luton Railway Station.
The new-ish train station car park has three turbines perched on top of its roof, which according to First Capital Connect are designed to generate 10 per cent of the car park’s power requirements.
But whenever I look over there they’re never moving, even in the relatively high winds of recent weeks. If you go to our lutontoday.co.uk website you’ll see a video of when I recently wandered up to that part of town. Flapping in the breeze was a flag in the background, but the turbines were motionless again.
It’s either the wrong type of wind or someone needs to get up there with a pot of grease to get those turbines moving.
A PR man for First Capital Connect told me there’s not been a fault reported with the turbines and went off to investigate further over a week ago.
While I’m waiting for a more detailed response, if you spot them spinning give me a shout please.
