Keech Hospice Care staff nurse Ellen Godfrey is holding a fundraiser to help patients.

Ellen, who lives in Dunstable, is organising the charity night at the United Services Club, High Street South, Dunstable, on Friday, May 24.

It will be the second time that she has run the event, which will again feature local promoter and DJ Sid Hudson manning the decks throughout the night, as well as a raffle.

Ellen said: “I am hoping to raise £2,000. The nursing team have a wish list and we are hoping to buy a new air mattress to help stop our poorly patients from getting pressure sores. Last year was such a great night and I’m just hoping we can pull it off again.”

Although Ellen works at the hospice, she knows at first hand how devastating cancer is. She said: “I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2010 and I know how important it is to have the support of a good medical team around you. I learnt a lot about my friends during this time and the hospice team in particular. They supported me emotionally after my diagnosis and treatment.

“I am now in remission and doing very well. Because of this I wanted to give something back. Last year I canoed down Africa’s fourth-largest river, the Zambezi, and next April I am trekking in the Sahara Desert. I think last year we raised nearly £15,000.”

Tickets are £10 and can be bought from Ellen by phoning 07850 190376 or 01582 668126.

Ellen said: “I am happy to drop off tickets locally and I can reserve them on the door. If anyone wants to pay by cheque, could they please make it payable to Keech Hospice Care.”
