One of Britain’s oldest engineering companies is looking forward to its 200th anniversary after coming through a tough period.
Hayward Tyler has been making specialist pumps and motors in Kimpton Road, Luton, since 1815 and on Thursday posted a set of financial results that cheered the City and boosted its share price.
Even though the actual manufacturing operation in Luton made a loss last year, Hayward Tyler has a profitable aftersales business built up over many years in the oil, gas and power station business in America, India and China. Management at the seven-acre site where 180 people are employed have publicly thanked employees for sticking with it during the company’s rollercoaster year.
Hayward Tyler chief executive Ewan Lloyd-Baker said: “I would like to thank all of our stakeholders but especially our employees for their diligence and determination. As we move towards the bicentenary celebrations in 2015 the Board is looking to the future with increasing confidence .”
