Pesky PPI calls often go unanswered or ignored by many people, but one man is urging others to take notice of them after receiving £17,000 for his mis-sold insurance.
Ex-Lutonian Martin Allingham, 57, decided to see if he could claim for mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI) after one of the phone calls.
He was sent some forms to fill in, but when he read the small print he realised the company would take 39 per cent of any successful claim.
Mr Allingham said: “That rang alarm bells so I thought I’d try to do it myself. I downloaded forms from Martin Lewis’ website and sent them off.”
To his delight, Mr Allingham was delighted whn his bank offered him £17,025.
He said: “I am shocked by this. Not only in a happy way but also in that the banks are sitting there with people’s money and doing nothing to actively find them and let them know.
“It has only just started to sink in how much money I’ve got. So far I’ve bought some new sofas and I’ll be going on holiday. I definitely recommend people have a go at making a claim, but make sure you do it yourself, it’s really easy and no one else will take a cut.”
