Police in Luton were called to Russell Street at its junction with Wellington Street after a report was received of gun shots being fired at 2.07pm today (Jan 30).
A woman in her mid 30s was found with a hand wound and taken to hospital for treatment. The injury is not life threatening.
Both roads are currently closed while a forensic examination of the area is carried out. There is no immediate threat to the public but police are remaining at the scene to reassure the community.
The victim was with her partner at the time and it is believed they were involved in an argument with two men described as black; one wore black sunglasses and both were wearing hats.
Witnesses have reported seeing a white car with a long bonnet heading up Russell Street and past the church after the incident. This car and its occupants may or may not be connected to this incident and officers want the driver to contact the police.
