The East of England Ambulance Service has seen volunteer applications treble since launching a community initiative this week.
In the two days following the launch of ‘Community First Responder takeover’ week on Monday (January 21), the service received 30 requests to become a CFR.
CFRs are sent to attend life-threatening emergencies in their vicinitity to stabilise the patient while an ambulance is on the way
The service’s Lorna Marsh said: “It just goes to show how big-hearted the people in the region are which is really pleasing to see.
“This is such an important role but and also a really rewarding one – giving the life to your community.”
