There were celebrations at the Mulberry Court home in Limbury on Tuesday when resident Dorothy Morgan turned 100.

The great-great-grandmother, who was born in Banbury, Oxfordshire, on December 4, 1912, celebrated with her family.

That year saw Captain Scott reach the South Pole, and the sinking of the Titanic.

In 1936 Mrs Morgan, nee Claridge, married Robert Ringe, and they had a son, Michael. She was widowed in 1964, and remarried in Dunstable in 1976. But sadly she lost her second husband, Ronald, just six months later.

Mrs Morgan has two grandchildren, three great-grandchidren and two great-great-grandchildren. And she is not the only person in her family to have reached the big 100, as her aunt Ethel Nutt lived to be 103 years old.

On her birthday her family paid tribute to her, saying: “During her active years she was a loving mother, housewife, and a member of the Women’s Guild at St Anne’s Church in Luton for many years, when she performed community services such as visiting, helping and cooking for those in need.”
