Detectives in Luton are appealing for help after a man was assaulted in the early hours of New Year’s Day only to be hit by a car when trying to flee his attackers.
The incident began at around 1.30am when the man was attacked in Somerset Avenue near the junction of Crawley Green Road.
A gang of to six offenders pushed him to the ground and kicked him before he was able to run away.
The attackers followed him into Crawley Green Road where the victim was struck by a car which failed to stop.
Members of the public did their best to help him and dialled 999, and he is now being treated at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital for head injuries.
DC Gemma Widdowfield, investigating said: “This man has been a victim of crime twice – not only has he been attacked but in trying to escape has been struck by a car which has failed to stop.
“If anyone was in the Crawley Green Road area of Luton in the early hours of New Year’s Day and saw either of these two incidents, please speak to the police.”
