Flying barrier and cardboard have prompted a recycling site in Luton to close during the extreme weather today (November 22).
The household waste and recycling centre in Eaton Green Road is temporarily closed due to extremely high winds.
Staff at the site saw cardboard and a barrier flying across the site, so visitors are being directed to the recycling facility in Progress Way instead, which is a less exposed site.
Councillor Dave Taylor said: “Thankfully there haven’t been any serious mishaps so far. But with such high winds, we don’t want to risk injury to any person or serious damage to property.”
The Eaton Green site will reopen as soon as it is safe, although Met Office bulletins suggest the high winds are likely to continue for a while.
