PLANS for 600 homes, a new supermarket, hotels and a business park for the former Vauxhall car plant have been revealed.

The plans for Napier Park went on show at the Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday night.

Planning permission for the site, owned by Laing, was granted in 2006, and for Stirling Place, a smaller site on the opposite side of Kimpton Road, in 2009.

But the projects stalled and development managers Augur Buchler have now been appointed to come up with fresh plans for the site.

Proposed for Napier Park are 600 houses and flats, a 35,000 sq ft food store – possibly a Morrisons – with an underground car park, smaller shops, offices and light industrial units.

Also included are an ‘urban arboretum’, a pop-up market, parkland and performance space.

It is thought the site could provide 2,000 new jobs.

Stirling Place would be home to shops and cafes, an entrance to Parkway train station, a bus drop-off point, two hotels, a casino and a multi-storey car park.
