Town centre roads to shut

Road closures are set to hit Luton train station and Bury Park this weekend as more work takes place on the Luton Dunstable Busway.

The closure of Church Street for busway works is due to come to an end on Thursday (November 15), but a number of other town centre road closures are on the way.

Church Street had to remain closed for longer than expected after contractors found “unknown utility apparatus” when they dug up the road to create a new signal junction.

Once the road has reopened, work will begin to complete the new junction in Guildford Street at its junction with Station Road.

This weekend (November 17 and 18) there will be no vehicle access into Station Road, with traffic from Old Bedford Road and Guildford Street only able to turn into Mill Street.

Diversions will be signed via Mill Street, New Bedford Road and Hucklesby Way. Pedestrian access will not be affected.

Dunstable Road will be closed to traffic this Saturday (November 17) from 5am until midnight between the Telford Way roundabout and the junction with Hazelbury Crescent, to allow for drainage works.

Pedestrian access is not affected but traffic will be diverted clockwise via Hatters Way, Chaul End Lane and Dunstable Road, and in the opposite direction via Telford Way, New Bedford Road, Montrose Avenue, Leagrave Road, Waller Avenue and Dunstable Road.

Drivers will be able to access the petrol station in Dunstable Road but there will be no access to Bury Park.

From Monday November 19 to Friday November 23, one lane will be closed in Guildford Street between Midland Road and Station Road.

Traffic will be unable to access Mill Street from either Old Bedford Road or Station Road, and will be diverted via the St Mary’s roundabout and back, but pedestrians will still be able to get through.
