A giant rail freight depot on green belt land near Upper Sundon will move a step closer to reality next week.
On Tuesday, Central Bedfordshire Council’s executive committee is set to approve its new development strategy, which includes plans for a rail freight interchange, similar to that at Daventry, on a 135-acre site next to Sundon Quarry.
The site is to the east of the Midland Mainline railway, access for vehicles would be from the new Junction 11a on the M1.
A road from Junction 11a to Sundon Park Road is also proposed, which the strategy says would create the “first part of a strategic route linking the M1 and the A6”.
