A CELEBRATORY reception was held to mark the completion of the first phase of a landmark but controversial housing project.

The New Homes for Luton (NH4L) project aims to regenerate sites across town and its first phase has seen 150 homes built in Falconers Road, Wigmore Lane and Hart Hill. Representatives from the joint venture partnership of Wates Living Space, Catalyst Housing, Luton Borough Council and Luton Learning and Community Partnership visited the three sites.

The project aims to build 450 new affordable homes across the borough and to help local people find employment through apprenticeships and work experience placements.

The second phase, of 209 homes, has been given permission despite opposition from residents worried about the creation of a concrete jungle and work could start as early as September.
