CHARITY Crimestoppers wants the public to come forward with information on a woman wanted for failing to appear at court having been charged with aggravated burglary.

Leanne Burris, 25, originally from Luton is about 5ft tall and of medium build with shoulder length brown hair.

The offences with which she is charged happened on January 24 last year.

Burris was sentenced to six years in prison in her absence in July 2011 after the court heard she climbed through the victim’s window, whom she knew, and stole £5 from his trousers.

He reported the matter to the police but two days later woke to find her holding a knife to his throat. Burris left with a Post Office card but later rung the victim in a rage when she realised it was an old card.

She was arrested the same day for the two offences and was due to attend court on 27 January 2011. However, she failed to appear.

The appeal for Burris currently features on the Most Wanted section of the Crimestoppers website at www.wanted.crimestoppers-uk.org

Most Wanted allows members of the public to view individuals sought by police in their local area and give information to the Crimestoppers anonymously if they feel unable to go to the police.

Ann Scott, Crimestoppers Eastern regional manager said: “If you have any information on Leanne Burris, no matter how insignificant you feel it may be, you can give information to Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously either online or by calling 0800 555 111.

“In the 24 years that the charity has been running no caller has ever been identified so we can guarantee that no one will know that you contacted us with information.

“We never ask for your name or take personal details down. We do not trace or record calls and callers do not have to go to court or give a statement to the police.

“People are reminded that anyone who may be helping Burris to avoid arrest is also committing an offence.”
