RESIDENTS in the Lyndhurst Road area of Luton were left in the dark when an electrical box caught fire and caused power failure yesterday.
Firefighters were called to the street at 4.39am to deal with the fire and the entire street lost power.
UK Power Networks worked to get electricity back into the 221 households as quickly as possible.
A UK Power Networks spokesperson said: “Engineers worked as quickly as safely possible to restore power supplies following a fault to a piece of equipment on our local electricity network in Lyndhurst Road.
“We received a call from the fire brigade at 4.57am and had an engineer on site within half an hour. Power supplies to 221 customers in Lyndhurst Road, Belmont Road, Brantwood Road and Dallow Road were isolated at 5.30am in order to make emergency repairs.
“Supplies were restored in stages with 81 customers back on supply at 6.40am, 72 customers restored between 10.38am and 11.11am and the final 68 customers just before 1pm.
“We appreciate how difficult it is to be without electricity and apologise to all those affected.”
